PAINTINGS

Below are some of the paintings that I've done over the years. Everything I've painted has been in watercolor. I've never attempted painting with acrylics or oils, though I may some day. For those who would ask, I've never had any artistic training or attended any kind of classes, which should be obvious by looking at some of my work. I've always had a creative side and have enjoyed music, art, and poetry since my childhood. I am thankful for the talents that have been given to me, and for the enjoyment that I've gotten out of my creative side.

For other aspects of my creative side, see the music and poetry pages.

Room 488

This was painting/calligraphy that I was asked to do. The poem was written by a nurse (Amy Faucher) who was caring for a terminally ill child. The boy passed away, and the nurse's father asked to have her poem done in a child's silhouette for her. The roses are done in watercolor, and the silhouette is a paper cut out rather than paint. The calligraphy was done with India ink. The poem reads:

I tried to calm you
But you didn't understand,
They left you alone
A child shut in the dark.
Your pain seemed unbearable
So obvious to me.
You were just a little boy -
      only seven years old.
To you the world must seem so cold.
You were braver than anyone I know
I wish there was something I could do.
In those five minutes I knew you
You managed to change my life -
I found that my problems were actually
      Small and few.
I wish that one day you will live a
      better life,
And you will be able to do what most
      little boys do.
But until that day comes for you,
I will continue to pray that you recover
more and more each and every day.

Ferrari F40

This is a watercolor painting done on standard poster board.

This is a painting that I did for my brother-in-law. I painted it for him as a Christmas gift many years ago. I used a photograph from a magazine as a reference for the painting.

Ford Motorsport SVO

This is a watercolor painting done on standard poster board.

This is a painting that I did for my brother-in-law. After seeing the painting of the Ferrari F40 above, he asked if I could paint a picture of a Ford Motorsport SVO that he had a picture of. Using the photo as a reference, I painted the SVO seen to the right. This is painted on standard poster board, which my brother-in-law then had framed. Getting the look of shiny chrome using watercolors was a learning experience for me.

Girl on the Beach

This is a watercolor painting done on standard poster board.

I saw a photograph in a magazine of this and thought it would make a good painting. It was the first time I'd ever attempted painting the human form, and I was pleased with how it came out.

Elle Macpherson

This is a watercolor painting done on standard poster board.

This was from a photograph of Elle Macpherson that I saw in a magazine. She is standing atop a mountain or cliff, with the ocean and sky behind her. The black is a jut of land down below going out into the water. While I was happy with the painting of Elle, I wasn't real satisfied with the way the water, land, or sky turned out.

I wish I had a copy of the original photograph that I worked from so that I could post it as a comparison.

Silhouette

This is a watercolor painting done on standard poster board.

This was from a photograph that I saw in a travel agency advertisement. I thought it was a romantic looking photo, and I liked the idea of painting people, but in a silhouette. This was actually harder than I thought it was going to be. While I was happy with the painting overall, I was never happy with the way I painted the water.
